Light and geometry interventions by Javier Riera
Spanish artist Javier Riera produces what he calls “light and geometry interventions” on landscapes. Using powerful light Riera projects geometric patterns on to natural vistas. The projections can appear to transform a treeline into a two dimensional plane. At other times the light seems to add strict geometric shapes to the wilderness. The light and patterns disrupt the perception of the view they cover. Riera’s transposing geometric patterns onto natural scenery partly alludes to language, matter, and the way the two interact.

Mars’ Curiosity to Examine Odd Rock en Route to Mount Sharp

Curiosity is about 8 feet (2.5 meters) from an unusual rock. It lies about halfway from the rover’s landing site, Bradbury Landing, to a location called Glenelg. In coming days, the team plans to touch the rock with a spectrometer to determine its elemental composition and use an arm-mounted camera to take close-up photographs.
“As we’re getting closer to the light-toned area, we see thin, dark bands of unknown origin,” said Mars Science Laboratory Project Scientist John Grotzinger of the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena. “The smaller-scale diversity is becoming more evident as we get closer, providing more potential targets for investigation.”
Both the arm-mounted Alpha Particle X-Ray Spectrometerand the mast-mounted, laser-zapping Chemistry and Camera Instrument will be used for identifying elements in the rock. This will allow cross-checking of the two instruments. Curiosity now has driven six days in a row. Daily distances range from 72 feet to 121 feet (22 meters to 37 meters).
The rock has been named “Jake Matijevic.” Jacob Matijevic (mah-TEE-uh-vik) was the surface operations systems chief engineer for Mars Science Laboratory and the project’s Curiosity rover. He passed away Aug. 20, at age 64. Matijevic also was a leading engineer for all of the previous NASA Mars rovers: Sojourner, Spirit and Opportunity.

One World Trade Center
A reflective 104-story skyscraper known as One World Trade Center is rising amid New York City’s skyline where the iconic Twin Towers of the World Trace Center once stood.
The building—which became New York’s tallest in April—sits adjacent to the site of the towers that were destroyed in a terrorist attack 11 years ago today, on September 11, 2001. The exact footprints of the Twin Towers have been memorialized by two reflecting pools with cascading waterfalls, and walls inscribed with the names of those who were lost in the attacks.
The photographs featured above were taken by members of the crew building the new World Trade Center, which is expected to be completed in late 2013.

Tembang Jawa ini konon diciptakan tahun 1400-an oleh Sunan Kalijaga dan teman-temannya yang masih remaja dan mempunyai arti filosofis yg dalam dan mulia.
Gundul adalah kepala plontos tanpa rambut. Kepala adalah lambang kehormatan, kemuliaan seseorang. Rambut adalah mahkota lambang keindahan kepala, jadi gundul adalah kehormatan tanpa mahkota.
Pacul adalah cangkul yaitu alat petani yang terbuat dari lempeng besi segi empat, jadi pacul adalah lambang kawula rendah, kebanyakan petani.
Gundul pacul artinya bahwa seorang pemimpin sesungguhnya bukan orang yang diberi mahkota tetapi dia adalah pembawa pacul utk mencangkul, mengupayakan kesejahteraan bagi rakyatnya.
Orang Jawa mengatakan pacul adalah papat kang ucul (4 yg lepas).
Kemuliaan seseorang tergantung dari 4 hal, yaitu bagaimana menggunakan mata, hidung, telinga dan mulutnya.
1. Mata digunakan untuk melihat kesulitan rakyat/masy/org bnyk.
2. Telinga digunakan untuk mendengar nasehat.
3. Hidung digunakan untuk mencium wewangian kebaikan.
4. Mulut digunakan untuk berkata adil.
Jika empat hal itu lepas, maka lepaslah kehormatannya.
Gembelengan artinya besar kepala, sombong dan bermain-main dalam menggunakan kehormatannya.
GUNDUL2 PACUL CUL artinya jika orang yg kepalanya sdh kehilangan 4 indera itu mengakibatkan
GEMBELENGAN (= congkak/sombong).
NYUNGGI2 WAKUL KUL (menjunjung amanah rakyat/org bnyk) dg GEMBELENGAN (= sombong hati), akhirnya
WAKUL NGGLIMPANG (amanah jatuh gak bisa dipertahankan)
